Freestone County, Texas Obituaries [Sallie Belle (Bonner) Sneed 21 Sep 1882 - 14 May 1939 w/o Dr. James Edward Sneed] Dallas Morning News May 15, 1939 Section: I; Page: 5 Mrs. Jim Sneed, Wife of Late Doctor, Dies CORSICANA, Texas, May 14 -- Mrs. Jim Sneed, Austin, died Sunday in a hospital at Corsicana. Mrs. Sneed was the wife of the late Dr. Sneed, Teague, and before her marriage was Miss Sallie Belle Bonner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Irvan [sic] Bonner. She was related to pioneer families of this section of the state, born and reared in Fairfield. Immediate relatives surviving are her daughter, Miss Jane Sneed, Austin; and a sister, Mrs. Ernest Bonner, Camden, Ala. The body will lie in state in Fairfield Monday at the residence of Dr. and Mrs. W.N. Sneed. Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. Burial will be in Fairfield Cemetery. ============================================================== Submitted by Billie Bournias Last Rites Held Here for Mrs. Jim Sneed Mrs. Jim Sneed, aged 56, died in a Corsicana hospital Sunday, May 14, at 8:00 P. M, The remains were brought to the home of her brother-in-law, Dr. W. N. Sneed, and burial was in the Fairfield cemetery Monday afternoon, under direction of Burleson Funeral Home, Dr. H. V. Bennett, pastor of the Presbyterian Church at Teague conducting religious services. Mrs. Sneed was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. I. H. Bonner, pioneer settlers of Freestone County, and one of the County’s prominent and best known families. She was born and reared in Fairfield, and attended school in Fairfield and Corsicana, and later attended a business college. She was married Nov. 6, 1907, to Dr. Jim Sneed at the home of her sister, Dr. and Mrs. Ernest Bonner in Camden, Ala. After the wedding tour, the young couple settled at Teague where Dr. Sneed was prominently established in his profession, and where he died during the flu epidemic of 1918. At an early age she joined the Presbyterian Church in Corsicana, and later her husband joined the Presbyterian Church in Teague. After her only child, Jane Bonner Sneed, graduated in the Teague High School, six years ago, Mrs. Sneed moved to Austin for her daughter to enter the State University. Jane has been employed in the State health department since graduating from the University. Mrs. Sneed is survived by her daughter, and a sister. Mrs. Ernest Bonner of Camden, Ala., and many other relatives. Dr. W. N. Sneed of Fairfield filled the vacant place in this family as a true, devoted brother and father for Sallie Belle and Jane, and he zealously looked after their welfare. Among those from distant points attending the funeral were Wm. Carroll, connected with the State Health Department. Dr. and Mrs. Davis, of Austin. Dr. Davis is in in charge of the statistical division of the State Health Department. The three Misses Gill and Walter Keir, Sr., and Walter Kerr, Jr., all of Austin.
