Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Submitted by Billie Bournias The Fairfield Recorder Thursday, July 7, 1988 - Page 4B Mary M[illicent Edwards] Sneed Funeral services were held Thursday for Fairfield native and civic leader Mary M. Edwards Sneed, 79, who died Tuesday, June 28, at Fairfield Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Sneed was born Oct 1, 1908, in Fairfield and was a homemaker and member of First United Methodist Church. She was the first woman to be elected to the Fairfield Independent School District board of trustees, on April 2, 1955, and served as board secretary from 1956-61. She also was president of Fairfield History Club from 1941-43 and worked in various civic and community activities. Services were conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at Capps Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Bert Bagley officiating. A eulogy was given by Mary Grace Dent of Fairfield. Special music was provided by Loyd Lott who played "How Great Thou Art" and by Mary Joyce Manning who sang "One Day at a Time," accompanied by Brent Polk on organ. Burial was at Fairfield Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jim Sneed, Kenneth Scott, Andy Bonner, Burt Richards, Bobby Daniels and David Lott. Mrs. Sneed is survived by her husband, Morris Sneed of Fairfield; two daughters and sons-in-law, Billie and Sam Bill Bournias of Fairfield and Millicent and Donald McLeod of Rockwall; two grandsons, Sam Edwards Bournias of Fairfield and Frank Willis McLeod of Rockwall; a granddaughter, Andrea Kay McLeod of Rockwall; a nephew, Jim Sneed of Fairfield; and a niece, Sally Said of San Antonio. Arrangements were made by Capps Memorial Chapel of Fairfield.
