Freestone County, Texas Obituaries The Fairfield Recorder October 22, 2009 Charles Wesley Steele Funeral services were held in Houston for Charles Wesley Steele, 84, who died Oct. 3. Mr. Steele was born Nov. 16, 1924 in Streetman to Edward Elijah Steele and Mary Naomi (Richmond) Steele. He was baptized into the Christian faith April 5, 1960 and confirmed on April 10, 1960 at Zion Lutheran Church in Houston, where he remained an active member until his death. Mr. Steele proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and married his wife Dora Fuelberg, shortly afterward. He worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad 42 years and eight months. Mr. Steele retired in December of 1988 as conductor on the Sprint train from Houston to Dallas and was a lifetime member of United Transportation Union #293. He was preceded in death by sisters Tommie Shipley and Emily Lee, and brothers W.R. Steele, David Steele and Edward Steele. Survivors are Mr. Steele's wife of 59 years and 11 months, Dora, sister Annie Lou Bonner, brother Ray Steele and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Services were held at Zion Lutheran Church in Houston and Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brenham, Wiedeville community, with interment at Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were William R. (Bill) Steele, Jr., John Bonner, James Bonner, Arthur (Pete) Daugherty, Gene Arthur Fuelberg, Ralph Wellmann, David Emshoff, and Steven Hoehne.
