Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Fairfield Recorder newspaper Eugene Melton Steiner Funeral services were held this week for Eugene Melton "Gus" Steiner, 64, of Fairfield who died Saturday, April 5. Mr. Steiner was born in Noodle on August 13, 1943 to parents Homer and Margaret Grimes. He graduated from Newman high school of Sweetwater in 1962. Mr. Steiner was one of the original members of Fairfield Emergency Medical Service and would later serve on the EMS board of directors. He was also a member of the Fairfield Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Steiner retired from TUMCO in 1992 and was employed with Freestone county. He owned and operated Steiner Fencing Company and was a member of Round Prairie Baptist Church. Services were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8, at Round Prairie Baptist Church with Ed Ridge officiating. Interment followed at Woodland Cemetery. Pallbearers were Brian Hughes, Bobby Brown, Roy Casey, III, Billie Perez, Stevie James, and Monte Atchley. Honorary pallbearers were John Fryer, W.A. Davis, Noland Hughes, Ralph Lambert, Mike O'Neill, Roy Casey, Jr., John Gordon Small, and J.H. Keller. Mr. Steiner is survived by wife Susan Steiner of Fairfield; daughters Chelsea Steiner of Fairfield and Kelli Brown and husband Bobby of Teague; brother Homer Lloyd Grimes, Jr. and wife Patsy of Sweetwater; sister-in-law Janie Prestridge of Athens; mother-in-law Dorothy Petri of Fairfield; brothers-in-law Alan Petri and John Bush of Alverado and Michael Petri of Missouri City; granddaughters Macy and Jenna Brown of Teague; and special daughter Anna Easter. He is preceded in death by parents Homer and Margaret Grimes and infant daughter Brett Kristian Steiner.
