Freestone County, Texas Obituaries The Fairfield Recorder Thursday June 15, 2006 edition Hazel Stephens Hazel Stephens died at the age of 80 on June 1, with her daughter Ann at her bedside. Funeral services were held Saturday at Rocky Branch Primitive Baptist Church in Wortham; interment followed at Rocky Branch's cemetery. Mrs. Stephens was very active in the church no matter where she lived. In Wortham she was a member of Rocky Branch Baptist, and later became a member of Bethel Primitive after moving with her family to Fort Worth. In West Texas she attended New Hope Baptist, then Greater Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist upon moving back to Fort Worth. Mrs. Stephens returned to Wortham and Rocky Branch, where she was on the Mothers Board, but she spent the last two years of her life in Fort Worth. Born February 9, 1926, she married John Thomas Stephens on March 5, 1953. This union actually brought together three families, netting 10 children. Mrs. Stephens is survived by Rodis David of Brownfield, Ella Williams and Annie Skinner of Fort Worth, Eula Dickey, Frances Stephens and Kennth Stephens of Cameron, Robert Harris of Austin, John Stephens of Cameron and Richard Stephens of Mexia. She is also survived by a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other family and friends. Mrs. Stephens was preceded in death by her youngest daughter, Shirley Johnson; siblings James Thomas, Grace Brown and Andrew Donison and her husband John Stephens. Arrangements were by Golden Gate-St. Mary's Chapel in Dallas.
