Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Fairfield Recorder newspaper March 2008 Roger David Steward Funeral services were held earlier this month for Roger David Steward, 82, of Santa Fe, New Mexico who died Saturday, March 8, in his home. Mr. Steward was born in Steward's Mill on Sept. 20, 1925, to parents Roger and Grace Nettle Steward. He served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Hornet during World War II. Mr. Steward returned home after receiving an honorable discharge and graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in biology. He was employed as a petroleum geologist in Corpus Christi for several years before he and his wife Peggy moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico. Services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 15, at the church in Steward's Mill with Rev, Mark Woodward officiating. Burial followed at Steward's Mill Cemetery. Family friend Mike Anderson delivered the eulogy and soloist David Primer performed a capella. Pallbearers were grandsons Brian, Mike, Roger, Clayton, and Zachary Steward and stepson Chris Brady. Mr. Steward is survived by wife Peggy Margaret Steward; sons Worth Steward and wife Lisa, David Steward and wife Pam, Randy Steward and wife Mary; first wife Helen Watson Jeffries; stepson Chris Brady and wife Liberty; step-granddaughter Karen Pirner and husband Dave; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by parents Roger and Grace Nettle Steward; sister Emma Louise Schaefer; and grandson Stephen Steward. Arrangements by Capps Memorial Chapel of Fairfield.
