Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Travis Alton Stripling Travis Alton Stripling, 88, of Fairfield passed away Friday, May 25, 2001 at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Capps Memorial Chapel in Fairfield with Bro. Arlis Vandiver officiating. Interment will follow at Fairfield Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Randall Whitaker, Hollis Fuller, John Stevens, John Simmons, John Boothe and Marles Pace. Honorary pallbearers will be Ned Harrison, Johnny McLeod, Kimble Knight, Don Tolar, O.B. Utley Jr. and Joel Lane. Mr. Stripling was born Dec. 25, 1912 in Bullard, Texas. He was a retired Soil Conservation Service engineer, having worked there for 38 years. Mr. Stripling was a WWII veteran, serving in the U.S. Air Force, the 5th Armored Division and participated in five major European battles. He was among the first Allied troops to enter Germany. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star. Mr. Stripling was a member of the Fairfield Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents, W.A. and Lora Lane Stripling; brothers, Roy, Burton, Ellis, Penlind, Lemons and Woodrow; and sisters, Blanch and Faye. Mr. Stripling is survived by his wife, Eurline Vaughn Stripling; sons, Travis Earl Stripling of Houston and Walter Lane Stripling of Fairfield; brother, Mitchell Stripling of Austin; and sister, Willie Lora Taylor of Arlington.
