Freestone County, Texas Obituaries The Fairfield Recorder - February 10, 2011 WILEY D. STROUD Funeral services were held Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Fairfield for Wiley D. Stroud, 83, of Fairfield, who died Feb. 2 in Waco with family at his side. Interment followed at Woodland Cemetery near Kirvin. Mr. Stroud was born Jan. 19, 1928 in Post Oak to Alonzo and Cleo Stroud. On Aug. 23, 1946, he married Patsy Lee and they made their home in Fairfield. In his early adult years, he worked in the family owned grocery store where he was a butcher. Later he began a long career in the banking business, at First National Bank in Streetman. When the bank was moved to Fairfield, he continued his work there as president until leaving to take a position as president of Fairfield State Bank where he worked until his retirement. Since that time, Mr. Stroud enjoyed ranching and caring for his cattle as well as spending quality time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Fairfield and Streetman, serving many years as a deacon. Mr. Stroud was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter; and two brothers-in-law, Dalton Conner and Gene Howard. He is survived by his wife of 65 years; son Link Stroud and wife Grace of Granbury; daughter Patti Ballard and husband Elmer of Fairfield; grandsons Phillip Ballard and fiancé Bekah of Fairfield, Ethan Ballard and wife Gayelynn of Leander, and Matthew Stroud and wife Christina of Fort Worth; brothers A.J. Stroud and wife Doris of Centerton, AK and Charles Stroud and wife Patsy of Waco; sisters Margie Hugdhal and husband Harold of Arlington and Barbara Connor of Lufkin; great-grandsons Cody Ballard of Kempner, Kyler Ballard of Leander, and Kyle and Wyatt Ballard of Georgetown; step-greatgrandchildren Cody, BJ, Ashleigh, and Amber, all of Leander; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. Pallbearers were John Stroud, Lathon Stroud, Sid Stroud, Bruce Howard, Paul Burkhart, and Buddy Stroud. Honorary pallbearers were James Whately, Phil Whately, Kent Whately, Glynn Harris, Harold Massey, Johnny B. Massey, and Dr. J.H. Keller. Making arrangements was Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home of Fairfield.
