Freestone County, Texas Obituaries The Fairfield Recorder - Friday, October 29, 1897 Page: 5 DIED. At the residence of her husband, Mr. C. C. Stubbs, in Wortham, Tuesday, Oct. 2Gtb, 1897, of congestion, Mrs. M. E. Stubbs, aged about 35. The deceased had been ill a week of ten days, and was thought to be improving, and was reported here as being better on the day before she died. It seems though that she relapsed, as death came at 4 o’clock last Tuesday morning and bore her sway from ber family and friends. The news of her death was a painful surprise to the friends of Mr. Stubbs here as many of them had not before beard of his wife’s illness. No greater loss can befall any man of family than to lose his wife, his loving companion in all his joys and sorrows, the light of his home, the hope of his children and the loved idol of all his household. When the great misfortune of losing one’s life companion comes, with its midnight of gloom and unspeakable sorrow, words of condolence are but as empty sounds, for the heart knows nothing but its own silent communings. While words of condolence have somewhat, of comfort, time only can assuage tbe grief which the loving heart feels; for only those who have likewise passed under the rod know the depth of the sorrow and the weight of the harden which Is on them. Nevertheless, to our greatly bereaved and intimate friend and his saddened household, the Recorder offers all that oan be expressed in the deepest words, of sorrow and sympathy. Great indeed is their loss, and great must be the heart-pain which has come to them, as it comes to those only who have lost a wife and mother. The deceased was a member of the Methodist cbnroh. She was a good, noble-hearted Christian lady, noted for her kindness of manner and hospitality to friends. She was reared in this county, and was a daughter of the late Maj. I. S. Perry, who lived many years near Bonner, in the western part of the county. A husband and five children lived to mourn her great loss. Her remains were interred in the Wortham cemetery Tuesday evening.
