Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Mexia Daily News - Feb 6, 2007 edition Callen Taulton Thomas Mrs. Callen Taulton Thomas was born in Limestone County, Texas, on June 24, 1928, to Parhio and Matilda Taulton. She attended public schools in Mexia, Texas, and at an early age, she was baptized under the leadership of the Reverends Ada and Ida Henderson. Callen worked at various places as a cook, including Brown Nursing Home in Wortham, Texas, until she opened her own restaurant-cafe. Callen met and married Willie Thomas, and to this union, a son was born. She was preceded in death by her mother, her father, three sisters - Zella M. Medlock, Shirley Jean Sanders and Onaira Busby, and two brothers - Hayes Taulton and Sammy Taulton. Callen leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Dwain Thomas and wife Grace of Hubbard; grandchildren - Candance Thomas and great-grandson, Terrance Thomas of The Colony, Texas, Christie Harrie of Mexia, Texas, Anson Thomas of Dallas, Texas and Stephanie Thomas of Groesbeck, Texas; step-grandchildren - Brandi, Sharonda and Ramsey; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Alva Taulton and Autry Taulton, both of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Chancie (Jo) Hawkins McMillan and husband Joe of Houston, Texas, and Martha Echols and husband Freddy of Mexia, Texas. She is also survived by a host of very very special nieces and nephews, and a special friend, Ms. Ethleen Phillips of Mexia, Texas. Her services will be on Saturday afternoon, February 3, 2007, at First United Methodist Church, 203 North Canton Street - Mexia, Texas, at 12:30. Dinner will be served at the church’s Fellowship Hall.
