Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Fairfield Recorder newspaper April 30, 2009 Versie Ann "Pretty" (Stidom) Thomas Funeral services were held Wednesday for Versie Ann "Pretty" Thomas, 67, of Mexia who died Thursday, April 23, in her home. Mrs. Thomas was born in Branchville on July 30, 1941 to Coley and Inez Stidom. She attended school in Branchville, Gause and Hearne before marrying Elder Sammie Dee Thomas on June 28, 1958. Mrs. Thomas worked as a certified nurse's aide in several nursing homes in Limestone county including Manor Nursing Home in Mexia. For over 50 years, Mrs. Thomas held the office of "First Lady" at Mexia's Sandy Church of God In Christ where her husband served as pastor. Services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 29, at the First Baptist Church in Mexia. The services were officiated by Elder C.D. Washington with the eulogy given by Superintendent O.Z. Hall. Interment followed at Sandy Creek Cemetery with Floyd King, Jr., Lewis Thomas, Jr., Christopher Davis, Christopher King, Deron Clayton and Curtis Clayton, Jr. serving as pallbearers. Mrs. Thomas is survived by husband, Elder Sammie Dee Thomas, Sr. of Mexia; children, Fitzgerald Thomas and wife Jewel of Kerens, Sammie Dee Thomas, Jr. and wife Aurora of Arlington, Trecia Smith and husband Will of Fort Worth, Tanya Thomas of Irving, Mary Anderson and husband Anthony of Grand Prairie, Sheneika Smith and husband Carl of Mexia; Brothers, Fred Dunn and wife Marie of McKinney; MacArthur Stidom and wife Shirley of Plainview; Willie Charles Bryant and wife Debra of Hearne, and Robert Stidom of Los Angeles, California; sisters, Christine Gilmore of Calvert and Elsa Mae Lewis of Norman, Oklahoma; 11 grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Coley and Inez Stidom; brother, Joe Bill Stidom; grandson, JaMarcus Younger; and her aunt, Robbie Moore, who raised her as a child. Arrangements were made under the direction of Moore's Angelic Funeral Home in Teague.
