Freestone County, Texas Obituaries [William Ray Thompson] Fairfield Recorder December 23, 2010 WILLIAM (BILL) RAY THOMPSON Funeral services were held Monday at The River of Life Church in Fairfield for William (Bill) Ray Thompson, 80, of Fairfield who died Dec. 16. Mr. Thompson was born Monday, Nov. 10, 1930 at Presbyterian Hospital in Vinton, Iowa to Vern and Verla Thompson. He was the youngest of two, with an older sister, Ila. In March 1951, following completion of boot camp for the U.S. Navy, he married Janet Bixby Weir. After being discharged, they moved back to Vinton where he began technical school in Chicago, IL. Following his graduation with training in Mechanical Engineering, he was offered a position with the former Collins Radio in Richardson where the family lived until his retirement. Mr. Thompson enjoyed square dancing and playing bridge with his wife where they made many lifelong friends. Upon retirement, they moved to Fairfield and built a home on 10 acres. While in Fairfield, the couple became involved in the community with the majority of their time dedicated to the Butler Volunteer Fire Department. He is preceded in death by his grandchild Amy Kathleen Thompson. Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife; children Gordon Duane and wife Karen Thompson, Jana Rae Miller and husband Greg, Lorraine (Lori) Marie January and husband Tim, and Art Thompson; grandchildren Aaron William Rogers, Sarah Marie Rogers, Sean Michael January, Cody Patrick January, and Brett William Thompson; stepgrandchildren Chris and Crystal Miller and Brandon and Katie Miller; greatgrandchildren Caydon, Madison, Taylor, Tatum, and Kaitlin Miller; parents in law Merl and Lucille Weir; brothers and sistersin law Gordon and Jeannie Weir and Bobby Jo and Loren and their son Chad.
