Freestone County, Texas Obituaries The Teague Chronicle - May 10, 2007 edition BLAKE AND HELEN TOOKE Funeral services for Blake and Helen Tooke, both age 83, were held on Saturday, May 5, 2007, in the Chapel at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague, Texas. Rev. Darrel Beggs officiated and interment followed the services at Cotton Gin Cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Tooke both died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Tuesday, May 1, 2007. They both grew up in Teague and the Teague area. They married on August 2, 1941, and shared over sixty-five years together. Mr. Tooke served in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was stationed on a mine sweeper ship that was sunk during an operation. His ship was one of the first to enter the conflict at the Battle of the Layte Gulf which was a decisive victory for the United States over Japan. After his war service, Mrs. Tooke worked as an electrician in Bay City for several years, ran a neon sign business in Houston from 1948 - 1955, then worked as a journey-man electrician in construction from 1955 until 1979. He was a lifelong member of I.B.E.W. Mrs. Tooke worked for Sakowitz in Houston for many years and later worked as a cashier for Main Packing Co. also in Houston as well as being a dedicated homemaker all of her adult life. Mr. and Mrs. Tooke returned to Teague in 1979 and Mr. Tooke became a full time rancher. He loved raising cattle. Both Mr. and Mrs. Tooke were members of First Baptist Church in Teague. They are survived by their sons Truett B. Tooke and wife Bobbie Jean of Willis and Stan Tooke and wife Laura of Katy, their grandchildren Stephanie Patterson of Cypress, Sarah Tooke of Houston and Truett Aaron Tooke of Vienna, VA, their great grandchildren Amanda Tooke, Hogan Tooke and Adam James Patterson, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Tooke were preceded in death by their son Michael Glanton Tooke. Bowers Funeral Home of Teague was in charge of the arrangements.
