Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Mexia Daily News - Mar. 5, 2004 edition Gordon "Snapper" Tyner Gordon (Snapper) Tyner, former longtime resident of Mexia and Wortham, died Wednesday in Austin. Mr. Tyner, a former Mexia businessman, resided at Pflugerville and also formerly lived in Tyler. Gordon Tyner, known by his many friends as (Snapper), was born June 18, 1920, in Currie, north of Wortham, to Ella and Charlie J. Tyner. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pflugerville, where he served as an Usher and at one time was a choir member. Gordon will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. Visitation with family is scheduled this evening from 6 until 8 o'clock at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville. Funeral services for Mr. Tyner will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at First Baptist Church of Pflugerville. Additional visitation is scheduled for Sunday afternoon from 1 until 2 o'clock in Blair-Stubbs Funeral Home of Mexia. Burial will be Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock in Mexia City Cemetery, with local arrangements under direction of Blair-Stubbs. Surviving are his loving wife of 61 years, Corene Tyner of Pflugerville; two daughters - Charlotte Carter of Wimberley, Terri Culbertson and husband Robert of Austin; a son, Roy Tyner of Waco; a sister, Dessie McHargue of San Antonio; a brother and sister-in-law, J.W. and Hallie Tyner of Tyler; six grandchildren - Dena Looney and husband Deon, Heather Gitterie and husband Marc, Chris Tyner and wife Amy, Scott Tyner, Shelley and Michael Culbertson; and five great-grandchildren - Katie and Blake Looney, Noah and Leah Tyner, and Aidan Gitterie.
