Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Obituary of Ransom P. Varnell (Sep. 24, 1822-May 15, 1886, buried at Buffalo City Cemetery) The Fairfield Recorder - July 20, 1888 edition Mr. Ransom P. Varnell, living in this county near Buffalo, died last Sunday morning, the 15inst., of dropsy, after a long and painful illness, aged about 55 years. The deceased had been confined to his room and bed several months, and his death was not unexpected. He suffered a long time, and death came to him finally as a kind release from pain. He was an old citizen of this county, and was highly esteemed by all that knew him. We think he came to Texas from Alabama, but had been a resident of this county quite a number of years. He was a Mason, in good standing, and a member of Buffalo Lodge, and his remains were interred with Masonic honors, in the Buffalo cemetery on last Monday. A good man, a kind husband and father and a valuable citizen is gone.
