Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Roy Vaughn Funeral services for Mr. Roy Vaughn, 75, will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, at 10:00a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Dew. Rev. Duncan Graham will officiate. Interment will follow the services at Dew Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday with the family present from 6:00p.m. until 8:00p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Vaughn passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2014, at Palestine Regional Hospital. He was born in Freestone County and grew up in Buffalo where he graduated from Buffalo High School with the Class of 1957, before furthering his education at Lon Morris College. Mr. Vaughn worked as a brick mason for over thirty-five years, laying the bricks for numerous homes in Freestone County. He married Sally Swinburn on October 11, 1958, and through the years they lived in Rusk, Teague, raised their family in Dew, and Teague again for the past thirty years. He loved hunting and fishing, especially hunting with dogs and training them, and was an avid reader. Mr. Vaughn attended the First United Methodist Church in Dew. He is survived by one son, Jimmy Vaughn & wife Cindy of Dew; one daughter, Patricia (Lou) Vaughn of Teague; six grandchildren, Brittney Vaughn, Matthew Ginsberg, Jeremy Vaughn, Storm Gilliam, J. R. Vaughn and wife Amber, and Steven McCarville; three sisters, Louise Black & husband Purvis of Fairfield, Odell Albritton & husband Weldon of Buffalo, and Laveda Shelton of Sulphur Springs; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mr. Vaughn was preceded in death by his wife, Sally Vaughn; one son Jerry Vaughn & his wife Julie; one brother, Bill Vaughn, and one sister, Dorothy Hartley.
