Mattie Vernon
March 11, 1938  -  July 22, 2013 

The Angelic Hosts came for Mattie Idella Dunbar Vernon, 75, of Teague, Texas on 
Monday, July 22, 2013 at the Groesbeck LTC Nursing Facility among loving family 
and devoted friends. A viewing was held on Friday, July 26, 2013 from 10:00 AM 
until 7:00 PM with the family present from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM.

Funeral Services were held on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Moore's 
Angelic Funeral Home Chapel in Teague, Texas. Rev. Walter Franklin, Pastor of 
Teague Circuit United Methodist Churches officiated and Rev. Larry Rose Jr., 
Pastor of First Baptist North Teague served as Eulogist. Interment took place at 
the Antioch Cemetery in Teague, Texas.

Mattie Vernon was born the only child of Ned Burks and Lura "Blackie" Dunbar on 
March 11, 1938 in Freestone County, Texas.

She grew up in Teague and attended Booker T. Washington School. Mrs. Vernon was 
baptized in the Alexander Chapel Primitive Baptist Church of Mexia by the late 
Rev. H. B. Chambers. She married Joe Vernon of Ft. Worth, Texas and no children 
were born to this union. Mattie was employed as a bus driver for the bus transit 
system in Ft. Worth and also worked in the Food Service Department of the Mexia 
State School. She held membership in the UMW of St. James Church and participated 
in the Relay for Life organization.

Her hobbies included dining out, watching television, riding around, talking on 
the telephone and visiting other churches.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 7 sisters, and 3 brothers.

Forrest Moore and wife Dorothy of Ft. Worth, TX; Aunt: Mrs. Bennie Beck, 
Hereford, TX; God- Son: James Cook of Ft. Worth, TX; God Sisters and Brothers: 
Yvonne Sloan and husband Franklin of Teague, TX; Rev. Joyce Smith and husband 
Jackie of Vancouver, WA; Jacqueline Arnold of Dallas, TX; James Arnold and wife 
Bridgette of Vancouver, Wash; Donald Arnold and Frederick Arnold and wife, 
Gracie of Portland, OR; Kenneth Arnold of Hubbard TX; and Preston Arnold of 
Dallas, TX; Special Niece: Susie M. Scott, Fairfield, TX; Special Cousins: 
Arthur Lee Dunbar, Centerville, TX; Cassi Dunbar, Ft. Worth, TX; and Alfred T. 
High, Teague, TX; Special Friends Sylvia Wiley, Roger and Doris Nealy, Loisey 
Mims, Rosa Lee Haynes, along with other nieces, nephews and many friends.

Moore's Angelic Funeral Home, 406 Monroe Street,Teague, Texas is serving the 
Vernon Family.
