Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Cloteal Elizabeth (Blount) Watson Ninety-four years ago, on August 26, 1920, a beautiful blue-eyed blonde daughter was born to P.G. [Pirtle George] and "Betty" [Katherine Elizabeth] Blount, of Fairfield, Texas. They named her Cloteal Elizabeth. She grew up on a farm in Fairfield and attended Fairfield schools graduating from Fairfield High School in 1938. She was blessed to have three siblings, Neal, Wayne and Fannie Ruth. Shortly after graduating from high school, she married Sam Wood Watson. Four daughters were born to this union: Marilyn, Molly, Linda and Tommie. They raised their children on ranches in Leon and Madison Counties. Sam was a ranch foreman for 45 years, and Teal (as she preferred to be called) worked at Scott Drugstore, later known as Clouser Pharmacy, for 20 years. Sam succumbed to a heart attack in 1974. In 1984, Teal married Kirk Watson of Flynn. She and Kirk shared 20 blessed years on his ranch in Flynn until his death 2004. Teal continued to live at the ranch. She loved to play “42” and joined a group weekly at the Flynn Grocery & Feed store. She also loved birds. She spent many hours bird watching from her dining room windows. She had hundreds of hummingbirds, martins, painted bunting, redbirds and bluebirds. Bluebird houses dotted the landscape around the house. A few years ago, she suffered a couple of bad falls. She developed dementia and her health slowly declined. Her outside activities (working in the yard and riding her golf cart around the premises) were curtailed but she still enjoyed the company of her family and friends. If you stopped by her house, she would try to feed you. She was known for making the best banana pudding and rum cake. She looked for the good in others, never speaking a bad word about anyone. She always thought of others first and lived by treating all with the same consideration. She encouraged her children to “be a little kinder than is necessary.” “Mama Teal”, as she was known by her family, went to her final home in Heaven on Sunday, November 9, 2014. She leaves us with a gift of memories knowing that we were a part of a well lived life. We know that she is making Heaven smile with her sweet precious spirit. Cloteal was the matriarch of her family and dearly loved by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her two brothers, Neal Blount and Wayne Blount; sister, Fannie Ruth Awalt; husbands, Sam Watson and Kirk Watson; granddaughter, Dawn Dean Lawrenz; great granddaughter, Crystal Lawrenz; sons-in- law, Aubrey Standley and Melvin Maness and special friend, Bro.
