Mexia Daily News - Feb. 10, 2005 edition Marguerite Isabelle (Bowers) Wertz TEAGUE - Mrs. Marguerite Isabelle Wertz, 96, a native of Teague, died Monday. She was born in Teague on Nov. 3, 1908, to Janie Looney nad Edgar Bowers, Sr., some of Teague's first residents. A 1926 graduate of Teague High School, she played the organ for the silent movies at the Star Theater, and was a 60-year member of Saint Mary's Catholic Church, where she served as an organist. An accomplished musician, Mrs. Wertz was also an artist, writer and avid reader. She was a past member of the Teague Garden Club, the Freestone County Art League and Texas Rural Artists. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Joseph L. Wertz; by her parents, a brother, Charles Bowers, and by a sister, Charline Bowers. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 8 o'clock at Ricks-Bowers Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, alongside four generations of family members. If desired, Memorials may be made to Teague Historical Preservation Society, Inc., P.O. Box 66, Teague, Tx. 75860. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Rita and Benny Walker of Teague, Mary and Cliff Wall of Southlake; five grandchildren - Cathy Marcum and husband Stephen of Katy, Eric Walker and wife Sushma of Teague, Joseph Wall of Stillwater, Oklahoma, James Wall and Elizabeth Wall of Southlake; four great-grandchildren - Christopher Marcum and Rachel Marcum of Katy, Emily Walker and Erica Walker of Teague; a brother, Edgar Bowers, Jr., and wife Jeannie of Teague. Pallbearers are Benny and Eric Walker, Cliff, Joseph and James Wall, Steph en and Christopher Marcum. Designated as honorary pallbearers are Bill Bowers, Sonny Sessions, Ken Sessions, Jerry Pickens, Carl Whitten, Gerald Horton, Fred Neale and Joe Keith Connell.
