Freestone County, Texas Obits Amarillo Daily News Feb. 21, 2000 Bernice Carroll Wheeler Bernice Carroll Wheeler, 87, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Southlawn Baptist Church with the Rev. Greg Kinch officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by BlackburnShaw Funeral Directors, Memorial Chapel, 315 E. Fifth Ave. Mrs. Wheeler was born in Freestone County. She retired from F.W. Woolworth's as a personnel manager. She was a member of Southlawn Baptist Church and Amarillo Senior Citizen Association. She married George L. Carroll in 1927 at Memphis. He died in 1965. Her daughter, Doris Marie Bufkin, died in 1973. Her second husband, M.T. Travis, died in 1989. She married Frank M. Wheeler in 1991. Survivors include her husband; a son, George Carroll of Lake Tanglewood; a stepdaughter, Beth Wheeler Price of Amarillo; a stepson, Jerry Wheeler of Lake Tanglewood; a sister, Willie Mae Vallance of Lubbock; a half sister, Jackie Gurisch of Decatur; five half brothers, H.B. Smith of Odessa, Wayne Smith of Cross Plains, James Ray Smith of Spring Lake, Bobby Smith of Possum Kingdom Lake, and Calvin Moore of Midland; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.
