Freestone County, Texas Obits Fairfield Recorder - Thursday, September 28, 2006 Hazel (Hartnett) Whitaker Funeral services were held Wednesday in Fairfield for Hazel Hartnett Whitaker, 76, of Fairfield who died Monday, September 25 in Buffalo. Mrs. Whitaker was born Tuesday, January 14 in Huntsville to Earl Clinton and Leona Simmons Hartnett. She was a member of First Baptist Church for more than 50 years. She was an active member of several community clubs and organizations, include the Freestone Quilt Guild, the Art League, the History Club and the Gardening Club. Mrs. Whitaker also taught Sunday school for many years, and was a hospice volunteer. Services were conducted at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, with Rev. Mack Roller and Rev. Jimmy Pritchard officiating. Burial was at Fairfield Cemetery. Pallbearers were Wayne Whitaker, Jo Day Whitaker, Terry Whitaker, Jimmy Danford, Dunk Morgan and Barry Capps. Mrs. Whitaker is survived by her daughter, Vicki Whitaker Best and husband Wayne of Buffalo; a son, Vince Whitaker and wife Jo of Lufkin; grandchildren Craig Whitaker of Lufkin, Padon West of Buffalo, Patrick Whitaker of Lufkin; Lanna Bacchus of Frisco, Catherine Best of Dallas and Daymon and Allison Best of Buffalo; Great- grandchildren Jacob Gonzales of Dallas, Tristan and Avery Best of Buffalo, Alex and Lydie Bacchus of Frisco; A sister-in-law, Mary Hartnett of Huntsville; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Richard Hartnett, Robert Earl Hartnett and Neal Hartnett; and her sister, Jackie Hartnett. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Fairfield Library Association of First Baptist Church Library Fund of Fairfield.
