Freestone County, Texas Obituaries The Fairfield Recorder October 13, 2007 Bonita (Hartley) White Funeral services were held this week for Bonita White,75, of Dew who died Friday, Oct. 5. Mrs. White was born in Dew on Nov. 13, 1931 to the late Dalton and Ada Hartley. She commited her life to Christ at the age of twelve and joined First Baptist Church where she remained active until her death. Mrs. White graduated from Teague high school in 1949 and on June 12 of the same year she married Ballard White. She attended Navarro College and would later graduate from Baylor University with a degree in education. Mrs. White and her husband served as missionaries for thirty years on the Cheyenne River Sioux Indian Reservation in Eagle Butte, SD. Services were held at the First Baptist Church in Teague, Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Darrel Beggs, Rev. Curtis D. White and Dr. Delmar E. White officiating. Mrs. White is survived by her husband of fifty-eight years, Ballard White of Dew; sons Curtis White and wife Cathy of Sisseton, SD and Delamar White and wife Debra of Vanderhoof, B.C.; grandchildren Savannah, Mariah, Marielle, John, Paul, Joshua, Rachel, Hannah, Joy and Jay; great-grandchildren Jacob, Bethany and Aubrey; sisters Mary Helen DeShazo and Yvonne Pendergrass both of Teague; brother Donald Hartley and wife Betty of Teague; and sister-in-law Billie White of Groveton. Together they lived in several different states during Mr. White’s service in the U.S. Air Force. Bonita attended Navarro College and later graduated from Baylor University in 1959 with a degree in Education. She taught schools in Texas, Montana, and South Dakota during her career, but her heartfelt desire was to share the love of Christ with others. She and her husband served as Missionaries for thirty years on the Cheyenne River Sioux Indian Reservation at Eagle Butte, South Dakota. She helped conduct church services several times a week, playing piano and organ, leading and directing choirs, teaching Bible classes, leading church camps, and all aspects of mission work. She worked hard preparing meals for the people she ministered to as well as for her family. She loved music and enjoyed singing and playing hymns. She also loved to draw and paint and often used her talent to illustrate Bible lessons. Her Lord was first in her heart, but her family was a close second.
