Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Obituary of Mr. Alonzo J. Williams [Unknown cemetery as no known existing marker in modern times] [Probably buried at Saint Elmo Cemetery.] The Fairfield Recorder - July 20, 1888 edition DIED Departed this life at his home in Freestone county, near Winkler, Thrusday, July 12th, of typhoid dysentery, Alonzo J. Williams, aged 57 years 6 months and 13 days. In the death of Mr. Williams the community has lost a worthy citizen, his wife and children a devoted husband and a kind and affectionate father. Mr. Williams was an honest man, "the noblest work of God". By competency of this world's goods to live on independently, though he continued to toil and labor up to the very day on which the fatal malady struck him, having adopted in early manhood as his motto that there was a work for all to do. Some five years ago, he united with the Missionary Baptist Church, located in this vicinity and was soon after set apart by the church as a deacon. The fidelity and assiduity of the sacred office showed that his brethern "builded well" when they selected him. To every worthy object, and particularly to his pastors support, and to the mission cause generally, he contributed of his means liberally and ungrudgingly. His devoted wife and orphaned children have the sincere and deep sympathy of our entire community, in this their time of heavy, inconsolable bereavement. Peace to his ashes. - G Winkler, Texas
