Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Ellen Carolyn (Carpenter) Williams Ellen Carolyn Carpenter Williams ascended to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 14, 2010, at age 96. Carolyn was born in Corsicana, Texas, on March 25, 1914, to her parents, John William Carpenter and Flossie Belle Gardner Carpenter. Carolyn graduated from Highland Park High School and then the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and chosen as a Blue Bonnet Belle. Having met her beloved husband, Dan C. Williams, in college, they married in 1936. She served as President of the Highland Park High School PTA, member of the Board of Governors of the Dallas Woman's Club, co-founder of the Dallas Needlework and Textile Guild, and active member of the Dallas Craft Guild, the Junior League of Dallas and the Junior League Garden Club. Having a passion for learning, ranging from literature to the creative arts and needlework, Carolyn received the Athenian Award from the University of Dallas. A loving, intelligent, and generous example to all, Carolyn was devoted to her family, friends, and church. She was a charter member of both the Highland Park Presbyterian Church and the Park Cities Presbyterian Church. Carolyn dearly loved and is survived by her three daughters, Carolyn Marks, Harriet Peavy and husband, Dan, and Suzanne Nash and husband, Horace, Jr. (Buddy), grandchildren and their spouses, Ellen Marks Verlanic (Ed), Kathryn Marks Kuehn (David), Daniel Peavy (Janet), Gardner Peavy (Jill), Harriet Nash, Bonner Nash Hernandez (Robert), Elizabeth Nash Dyck (Al), and 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dan, and by her brothers, John W. Carpenter, Jr. and Ben H. Carpenter. The family gives our heartfelt appreciation to her exceptional caregivers: Sammye Thacker and Barbara Mayville. A memorial service celebrating Carolyn's life will be held at Park Cities Presbyterian Church, 4124 Oak Lawn Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75219, on October 18, 2010, at 2:00 PM. There will be a reception following the service at the church in Fellowship Hall.
