Freestone County, Texas Obituaries LUTHER RHEADELL WILLIAMS 2011-06-09 / Obituaries Funeral services were held Saturday at Gibson Chapel AME Church of Mexia for Luther RheaDell Williams, 79, of Mexia who died May 30 at Parkview Regional Hospital of Mexia. Interment followed at Cotton Gin Cemetery of Freestone county. Mr. Williams, also known as Uncle Rhea, was born September 22, 1931 to Everett Williams and Lizzie Mae Tinsley. He was a 1950 graduate of Furney Richardson high school. At an early age, Mr. Williams accepted the Christian faith and joined the Gibson Chapel AME Church where he served many roles including steward president on the trustee board, class leader, choir member, Sunday school secretary and he did all he could to help the church. He was past president of the Grand Order of Help Club and was a general maintenance worker. A joker who loved sports, Mr. Williams is known for his love of God, family and friends, and never met a stranger. In 1994 he became a resident of the Teague Nursing Home and then in 2004 moved to be a resident of the Manor Nursing Home. Mr. Williams is survived by sisters Clara Robinson of Fort Worth and Joyce Williams of Tulsa, OK; 10 nieces; 10 nephews; and a host of cousins and many friends. Officiating services was pastor Stanley Johnson. Making arrangements was Pearly Gates Funeral Home of Mexia.
