Mexia Daily News - Aug. 9, 2003 edition Verna Marie Barnard Wilson TEAGUE - Funeral services for Mrs. Verna Marie Barnard Wilson, 93, will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock in Eighth Avenue Baptist Church. The Rev. Paul Gauntt will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery (Freestone County), under direction of Ricks-Bowers Funeral Home. Mrs. Wilson, who had resided for most of her life in Teague, died Friday in East Texas Medical Center-Athens. She attended elementary school in the Providence community and was in the last graduating class at Donie High School. In her early years, she worked for Allen Martin's Bakery in Teague, and later worked as a clerk in the bookstore at Kilgore College for nine years, before returning to Teague when she retired. Mrs. Wilson was a member of Eighth Avenue Baptist Church. Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by her two husbands, Earl Barnard and Walter Wilson; by her parents, and by a brother, J.C. Martin. Visitation is scheduled for today, and with the family from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Surviving are a daughter, Verna Louise Martin of Athens; a son and daughter-in-law, Earl Duane and Shirley Barnard of Enid, Oklahoma; four grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Key of Fort Worth; a brother and sister-in-law, Bill Tom and Dorothy Martin of Riesel; numerous nieces and nephews.
