Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Fairfield Recorder newspaper March 5, 2009 John William Wilson JOHN WILLIAM WILSON Funeral services were held last month for John William Wilson, 89, of Fairfield who died Thursday, Feb. 19, in his residence. Mr. Wilson was born in Graford on Feb. 24, 1920 to William Allen Wilson and Oscie Ione May Wilson. He served in the United States Marine Corps, 1st Division during World War II. Mr. Wilson was stationed on the U.S.S. Tennessee at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. He also served in defense at Guadalcanal, Turlagi, Gavatu, Tanambogo and the British Solomon Islands, for which he received the 1st Marine Division (REIN) Presidential Citation. After four years of military service, Mr. Wilson returned home in 1944. He was an avid welder who followed the pipeline trade all over the United States and abroad. Mr. Wilson retired in the 70's and moved to Fairfield where he worked as a rancher, raising cattle. Services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 22, at Baum-Carlock- Bumgardner Funeral Home in Mineral Wells. Mr. Wilson's granddaughter and missionary, Lottie Hall, officiated the services. The eulogy was given by Mr. Wilson's grandson, Rev. Wayne Fitzpatrick of Belgrade, Montana, who also sang "Amazing Grace," accompanied by the guitar. Interment followed at Graford Cemetery with Jerry Abercombie, Billy Gould, Shawn Cullum, Brandon Cullum, Justin Cullum and Joey Burton serving as pallbearers.
