The Bryan - College Station Eagle - November 25, 2001 edition Joe Davis Withers March 22, 1920 — Nov. 23, 2001 FRANKLIN — Services for Joe Davis Withers, 81, of Ridge are set for 11 a.m. Tuesday at the McCauley Funeral Home Chapel in Franklin. Burial will be in Holly Cemetery in the Ridge community. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Mr. Withers died Friday in Humble. He was born in Teague and lived in Ridge most of his life. He received his education in Teague. He was retired from the Cameron Iron Works after 29 and a half years of service as a carpenter. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he was a P.O.W., and was a member of VFW Post No. 9873 in Franklin. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alma Withers. Survivors include four daughters and sons-in-law, Lynda and Carl Douthey of Scappoose, Ore., Mary and Ronnie Franklin of Pasadena, Texas, Sylvia and Norman Murff of Splendora, Texas, and Patricia and Frank Clark of Houston; a son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Betty Withers of Stockdale, Texas; a step-son, James Currie of Maybank, Texas; 26 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
