Mexia Daily News - Mar. 10, 2006 edition Glen Wren TEAGUE - Glen Wren, who was Vocational Agriculture teacher and FFA Advisor for 36 years, died Wednesday, March 8, 2006, at his residence in Teague. It was in 1950 that Glen moved to Wortham, where he had a 36-year career with the Wortham Independent School District - all at Wortham High School. He was over the years extremely active in many agriculturally-related endeavors. Mr. Wren advanced the FFA program at Wortham, was the guiding force behind that district’s getting an Agriculture Shop built, and always had students involved in what he referred to as the Freestone County World’s Fair, because it was so important to him and to his students who were showing animals each year at 5 the Fair. For many years, Mr. Wren served as Chairman of the Freestone County Fair Livestock Committee; was Chairman of the Freestone Service Agency, director of the Farm Bureau, was a past-member of the Go-Texan Committee in Freestone County for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. He also was a past-president of the Freestone County Independent Cattleman’s Association, and in 1998 was honored by being named as Conservation Rancher of the Year for Freestone County. He was raised on a farm near Freestone, had virtually always been involved in ranching, and had been in the beef business for nearly 50 years. The Wren Farm has been in the family for over 100 years. Glen added additional acreage to the family farm. Church and church activities were very important to Glen, who was an active Deacon of the Teague First Baptist Church, where he also served as Chairman of the Building and Grounds Committee. He and his wife were members of a Christian group called the Campers on a Mission in Texas. Mr. Wren was particularly interested in the youth of our country and had devoted much of his life to the education and instruction of students in Freestone County. He was proud of the scholarship program developed in the country for students who participate in the Freestone County “World’s” Fair, feeling as if this afforded them the opportunity to further their education. Glen Wren was born in 1929, graduated from Teague High School in 1946 and obtained a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Agriculture from Sam Houston University in Huntsville. After graduation he taught veterans in agriculturally-related subjects, at Austonio. On Sept. 1, 1950, he married Joanne Raus of Galveston.
