Freestone County, Texas Obituaries Fairfield Recorder newspaper January 15, 2009 Ernest "Bud" Younger Funeral services will be held Thursday for Ernest "Bud" Younger, 65, of Fairfield who died Sunday, Jan. 11, after loosing his battle against cancer. Mr. Younger was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 16, 1943 to Earnie and Irene Younger. He found religion at the age of 12 when he joined the Church of God. Mr. Younger later became associated with the First Baptist Church of Fairfield. At the age of 18, he joined the United States Air Force. In 1961 he was stationed in Friezing, Germany as staff sergeant. While in Germany. Mr. Younger met and married his wife Deidra Hoppe who was the daughter of Lieutenant Colonel Farnam Hoppe of Pennsylvania. He returned to the United States in 1965, where he was assigned to Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls. Mr. Younger studied telecommunications and graduated first in his class. He worked as an instructor teaching five courses. Upon his discharge from the U.S.A.F. in 1970, Mr. Younger attended Midwestern University in Wichita Falls. He began a career in telecommunications working with Continental Telephone, Contel, GTE, and Verizon. Mr. Younger and wife had two children: Cheryl Stone, a teacher at Fairfield high school and Candace von Sehrwald, a registered nurse at East Texas Medical Center in Athens. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 15, at the First Baptist Church of Fairfield with Benny Mize officiating. Burial will follow at Fairfield Cemetery with Scott, Roy, and Ken Bailey, David, Kelly and Joe Norwood, Stan Gorman and Norbert Wake serving as pallbearers. Mr. Younger is survived by his wife of 44 years, Deidra Younger; daughters, Cheryl Stone and husband Stevie of Fairfield, Candace von Sehrwald and husband Olaf of Fairfield; grandchildren, Clayton and Caitlynn Stone and Zachary von Sehrwald; and dear friends Joe Norwood and wife Veda of Corsicana. He was preceded in death by his mother, Irene Younger Deaton; father, Earnie Younger; grandson, Brandon Cole Stone; brothers James and Gary Younger. Arrangements were made by Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home of Fairfield.
