STEELE, PIONEER WOMAN, DIES THRUSDAY Miss Zuma Steele, 62 years old, member of Mexia's oldest families, died late Thursday and was buried Friday in the city cemetery, following last rites conducted by Rev. E. H. Hudson at the First Presbyterian Church. Miss Steele, who underwent a major operation a month ago, died at 7 PM Thursday of complications brought about by her advancing years. Born at the Steele homestead between Mexia and Cotton Gin, Aug. 27, 1871, Miss Steele was the daughter of the late Senator and Mrs. R. E. Steele. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. W. B. [Walter Berry] Bonner [who is Ella Steele] and Mrs. T. E. [Thomas Emmitt] Wright [who is Josephine Steele], and one brother, R. [Robert] A. Steele. She made her home at 602 Ross Avenue. Pallbearers included J. G. Coman, A. W. Bonner, Frank Evens, Revis? Finch, O. F. Watkins, Jake Stubbs, B. B. Hunt, Horace Chitwood, Don Caldwell, Herman Hitt and John Davis. The J. I. Riddle Company was in charge.
