Red Devil dealt with many times on different things, the first I remember was being asked by him while being carried to the pen if I thought it would affect his felony probation in Lubbock where he had problems while going to Texas Tech on a basketball scholarship. This just one of many, probably the best was a family relative got a big government loan and built a nice new funeral home across the tracks in Teague, when he became behind in repaying the loans, he sold most of the equipment and hired Red to burn down the building which a two story with living quarters upstairs. The natural gas co. contacted us when gas smelled with a tremendous amount going thru the meter for quite sometime. I learned Red been staying in building, Red had poured gasoline in an old coffin lit it then closed the casket which put out the fire unintentionally. Up stairs he lit the oven in the cook stove and left it all thinking when the gas got to the fire it all burn down. If this had exploded it might have wiped out part of Teague. Red told me all about it but would not give a written statement. The relative who hired him contacted and verbally agreed to take a polygraph but always got sick when the time came. The Agency lending the money was not interested in prosecution. There were many other smaller incidents with Red who is now deceased.
