Spotlight Upon Unsung Heroes: Annie Laura Fortune By Wilbur Thirkield Titus 2007 Often we think of heroes as being dazzling personalities with outstanding accomplishments in some special field. That is not true in the case of the person who is in our spotlight this week. Our hero has sterling character, with a modest, loving, caring and unassuming personality. She has a desire to serve others and to make the world a better place. In my opinion, she merits our consideration. Let us focus our attention upon Mrs. Annie Laura Roberts Fortune, great, great grand daughter of trailblazers Bailey, Sr. and Mary Eliza Thurman Hunter. Mrs, Fortune lives in Corsicana, Texas, where she is active in the religious, civic, and fraternal live of the city and state.. Ann, as she is affectionately known, is an outgoing person who loves people and spends much of her time performing voluntary service to the community. She takes responsibility for her actions and her word is her bond. Some of the offices which she holds or has held are membership in Harmony Baptist Church, Corsicana, Texas, Secretary of Finance for more than 32 years, President of the Usher Board, President of City Wide Usher Board, Assistant Secretary of Family Council of Mel Haven Connelesion Home, Matron of Lilly Of The Field Court, and Deputy Matron of Districts 4A and 4C, Heroines of Jericho.
