Wilbur Thirkield (Bill) Titus, Editor A Happy, peaceful and Prosperous New Year to All, For me, 2009 came in with a bang. I hope that the events that happened are not a harbinger of things to come, as predicted by the old saying that what one does on the first day of the year indicates what he will experience during the remainder of the year. Nevertheless, I face the new year with great expectations and hope for the future of our nation. On February 5th., I will see a cardiologist to determine what procedure is advisable for the treatment of a gall stone problem. Other than that, my health seems stable. On February 9th., I will turn 90 years of age. I count that a blessing and invite you to help celebrate it. If you cannot come to me, please celebrate at home in your special way at twelve noon or whenever it is convenient. During its annual meeting, the Center added new leadership to the board of directors and staff. Reverend Elnora M. Nunnally, new pastor of Jones Chapel United Methodist Church, Fairfield, Texas was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mrs. Opal Oliver, Director of the Center Museum Program, and Mrs. Tammie McElroy, Recording Secretary. Special thanks go to Mrs. Annie Laura Fortune who resigned the chair of the Center Museum Program because of illness in her family. She remains a member of the Board. Under this leadership, the promises to grow. Spotlight Upon Personalities President Barack H. Obama took oath on January 20,2009. The Center and I join the nation, the world in commending the president on his accomplishments. We pray for him as he tackles that mammoth job. We hope that he will be able to lead the nation in a manner that will be a credit to himself, to God and in a manner that will be of paramount benefit to humanity. The quote listed below concerns Jennifer Jordan Washington, the daughter of James, Jr. and Jocelyn Jordan. James is the son of James, Sr. and Dorothy Earnestine Titus Jordan, the youngest daughter of Governor and A. M. Hunter Titus. "Jennifer Jordan (1995-97): A nine-time All-American and five-time conference champion, Jordan made history by running the anchor on the first national champion relay team in school history at the 1998 NCAA meet." This was taken from an article written by Brice Cherry entitled "Baylor's Best.". Reverend Elnora M.
