The Center Informer: Official Newsletter Of The A. M. Hunter Titus Charitable Cultural Center, Inc. Wilbur Thirkield (Bill) Titus, Editor 946 South Bateman Fairfield, Texas 75840-2902 Phone: 903-389-3482 Fax: 903-389-3552 E-mail: bill1919@valornet.com Fourth Edition November 11, 2008 Seasons Greetings Family and Friends, Since last we wrote, there have been "showers of blessings" upon me. My health is holding its own and I am still able to continue my usual projects. I am now a member of the Texas Book Reading Program, which affords tapes of books, magazines and other publications that improve the quality of life of people who are blind and otherwise handicapped. My history of Jones Chapel United Church of Fairfield, Texas is posted on Texas Archives on the internet. Click on the link listed below: http://www.usgwarchives.net/tx/freestone/church.htm Things are beginning to fall into place for the Center. * Pastor Elnora M. Nunnally and her husband Andrew are our newest members of our list of supporters and board of directors members. * Under the leadership of Leonard G. Burns, the Buildings & Grounds Program is receiving positive results. The old storage building has been replaced by a commodious portable building. This permits us to save donated articles. (See attachment to view the building.) * The Community Garden has tomatoes, cabbage, broccoli, garlic, beans, turnips, okra, carrots, pepper and onions growing. Some are being shared by members of the community. On October 25, 2008, the Board met for its third quarterly meeting. The purpose of the meeting was to prepare for the annual meeting and to make plans for 2009. The plans included a formal opening, quilt fair, benefits fair and garage sales for publicity and fund raising purposes. During the meeting, Pastor Nunnally dedicated the new storage building to the Honor of God, the memory of Mrs. A. M. Titus and to the service of the global community. The period of Thanksgiving and Christmas is upon us. During this period of thanksgiving and sharing, please place the Center upon your gift list. Your donations will help the Center to accomplish its mission. The Center's wish list consists of a larger plant, a garden tractor, and donations for the general and building funds. Please put the Center on your gift list! Something to Think About "Your Words produce your Thinking, your thinking drives your Emotions, your emotions dictate your Decisions, your decisions determine your Actions, your actions shape your Habits, your habits form your Character, your character determines your Destiny, and it all started with your words" - Unknown Joke of the Month: The Bathtub Test ' Do you want a bed near the window?' During a visit to the mental asylum, a visitor asked the Director, 'How do you determine whether or not a patient should be institutionalized?' 'Well,' said the Director, 'we fill up a bathtub, then we offer a teaspoon, a teacup and a bucket to the patient and ask him or her to empty the bathtub.' 'Oh, I understand,' said the visitor. 'A normal person would use the bucket because it's bigger than the spoon or the teacup .' 'No' said the Director, 'A normal person would pull the plug.'
