Freestone County, Texas Bios Texas Senate Resolution #209 By: Turner S.R. No. 209 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 In Memory 1-3 of 1-4 Isiah "Ike" Carden 1-5 WHEREAS, The family and many friends of Isiah "Ike" Carden of 1-6 Fairfield mourned his death on January 9, 1993; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Born on August 25, 1917, in Fairfield to 1-8 Mr. and Mrs. Isiah Carden, Ike Carden attended Spring Bank public 1-9 schools; and 1-10 WHEREAS, For 30 years Mr. Carden was the foreman of Hill Ranch 1-11 for F.E. Hill Company; he then embarked on a 20-year career as a 1-12 county demonstration agent with the Freestone County extension 1-13 service before his retirement in 1989; and 1-14 WHEREAS, A beloved and respected man in his community, he 1-15 worked for 20 years as junior livestock show chairman for the 1-16 Freestone County Fair; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Mr. Carden was named Man of the Year in 1984 by 1-18 the Freestone-Leon Soil Conservation District and a scholarship 1-19 was established to honor him and a pavilion at the county fair 1-20 was named for him in 1989; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Always active in civic affairs, Mr. Carden was a member 1-22 of Fairfield Masonic Lodge 452; he served on the Fairfield Library 1-23 Association board of directors from 1968 through 1988, was a member 2-1 of the county 4-H Leaders Association for 19 years, and served three 2-2 years on the Farmers Home Administration Committee; and 2-3 WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Mr. Carden was an active member 2-4 of Jones Chapel United Methodist Church; he held several positions 2-5 at the church and received the Outstanding Leadership Award from 2-6 Jones Chapel in 1984; and 2-7 WHEREAS, His wise counsel and good judgment will be 2-8 remembered with gratitude by those whose lives he touched; and 2-9 WHEREAS, Highly esteemed by his fellowman, Mr. Carden was 2-10 unquestionably a man of high principles and integrity, and his 2-11 passing is mourned by all who knew him; now, therefore, be it 2-12 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-13 73rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the members 2-14 of his family: his wife, Leophia; his sons, Isiah Carden, 2-15 Odessa Clifford Carden, and Jesse Carden; his daughters, 2-16 Ann Henderson, Christine Manning, and Marie Britton; his sister, 2-17 Callie Alford; his brothers, H. C.
