Freestone County, Texas Bios Texas Senate Resolution #569 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 569 In Memory of Margie Beal Carter Dennis WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of Dallas in mourning the loss of Margie Beal Carter Dennis, who died April 3, 2005, at the age of 90; and WHEREAS, Born September 13, 1914, Mrs. Dennis was raised in Freestone County and attended Bishop College Extension; she was called to the ministry and graduated from the Southern Bible Training School, the Interracial Bible Institute, and the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary; she married Willie Leroy Dennis, who preceded her in death; and WHEREAS, For decades, Mrs. Dennis devoted her life to spreading her faith by teaching Bible study classes, visiting the elderly, and, for almost 40 years, holding religious services at the city jail; and WHEREAS, A member of Good Street Baptist Church, she was an integral part of many of its ministries, including the Senior Citizen Ministry, the Nurses Guild, and the Missionary Society; the church's Vacation Bible School was renamed in her honor to celebrate her work as its principal, and the church bestowed on her the Volunteer of the Year Award; and WHEREAS, The scope of her involvement reached into the public sphere as well, and her selflessness, compassion, and many accomplishments were admired and honored by organizations in Dallas and throughout the state; she received the Outstanding Texan Award from the Texas Legislative Black Caucus, the Sojourner Truth Award from the South Central Business and Professional Women's Club, the Caring Spirit Community Champion Award from the American Cancer Society, and numerous other accolades; and WHEREAS, A woman of strength, generosity, and unwavering faith, Mrs. Dennis gave unselfishly of herself to others, and her wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew her; and WHEREAS, This exemplary woman had an impact beyond measure on the lives of her family, friends, and community, and she leaves behind memories that will be forever cherished by the many whose lives she touched; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Margie Beal Carter Dennis; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Margie Beal Carter Dennis.
