1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 378
 1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 1-3     congratulate Arbella Bell Ewing on the grand occasion of her
 1-4     104th birthday on March 13, 1999; she was born on that date in
 1-5     1895 in Freestone County, Texas; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, Mrs. Ewing will celebrate her 104th birthday with
 1-7     a sister who is 97 years old, her nieces and nephews, and dear
 1-8     friends; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, This remarkable lady has worked all of her adult
1-10     life until her retirement in the late 1960s; she has always kept
1-11     her home available and open for relatives and friends to visit,
1-12     stay, and be fed; and
1-13           WHEREAS, Devoting much of her time to enjoying her hobbies
1-14     of working in the yard, tending her plants and flowers, cooking
1-15     her own meals, fishing, and watching her favorite television
1-16     shows, Mrs. Ewing looks forward to visiting the old home place
1-17     area where she grew up; and
1-18           WHEREAS, A devout member of Porter Temple C.M.E. for years,
1-19     she enjoys attending church when she "feels up to it" to hear
1-20     her favorite hymns such as "Amazing Grace," "The Rugged Cross,"
1-21     and "The Old Ship of Zion"; and
1-22           WHEREAS, Mrs. Ewing is a valuable and reliable source of
1-23     historical information about her family and the entire rural
1-24     community where she lived and grew up; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, A wonderful example for her family and friends,
 2-2     Mrs. Ewing shows courage and an admirable zest for living; now,
 2-3     therefore, be it
 2-4           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-5     76th Legislature, hereby recognize Arbella Bell Ewing as a
 2-6     treasured citizen of her town and state; and, be it further
 2-7           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 2-8     her as an expression of the highest esteem of the Texas Senate.
