Freestone County, Texas Bios Texas House Resolution #740 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, On April 14, 2001, Dee Etta Jones of Dallas is being 1-2 honored in celebration of her 75th birthday, and the occasion 1-3 provides a fitting opportunity to recognize the notable 1-4 accomplishments and contributions of this special woman; and 1-5 WHEREAS, The former Dee Etta Washington was born on April 16, 1-6 1926, in Fairfield, Texas, and is the eldest of five children; she 1-7 shared 50 wonderful years of marriage with William Jones, Jr., 1-8 until his passing in 1994; the couple were blessed with a large and 1-9 loving family, including six cherished children, Deborah, Humphrey, 1-10 Roderick, Donald, Anthony, and Sheryl, as well as 13 grandchildren, 1-11 and three great-grandchildren; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Mrs. Jones has dedicated herself not only to her 1-13 family, but also to a host of worthwhile organizations, serving in 1-14 positions of leadership in the Council of Negro Women, the local 1-15 chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons, and the 1-16 Association of Senior Citizens of Metropolitan Dallas; she is a 1-17 former member of the Dallas County Community Action Committee and 1-18 has worked diligently in behalf of numerous community and state 1-19 leaders; and 1-20 WHEREAS, An active member of the Mount Tabor Baptist Church, 1-21 this admirable Texan serves as president of the church's Golden 1-22 Ministry and its Day Mission program; she is an avid gardener and 1-23 enjoys cooking, sewing, and traveling; and 1-24 WHEREAS, Mrs. Jones retired from the City of Dallas in 1991 2-1 and now works at the Samuell-Grand Tennis Center, when she is not 2-2 involved with her volunteer activities; she brings happiness into 2-3 the lives of many, and it is indeed a privilege to join in honoring 2-4 her at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-5 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 77th Texas 2-6 Legislature hereby congratulate Dee Etta Jones on the occasion of 2-7 her 75th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for the 2-8 years to come; and, be it further 2-9 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-10 prepared for Mrs. Jones as an expression of high regard by the 2-11 Texas House of Representatives.
