No. 628 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 In Memory 1-3 of 1-4 Clyde Jackson Porterfield, Sr. 1-5 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins 1-6 with the citizens of Bryan in mourning the loss of 1-7 Clyde Jackson Porterfield, Sr., who died March 26, 1993; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Born October 2, 1915, in Corpus Christi, 1-9 Clyde Porterfield graduated from Moody High School and 1-10 received a bachelor of science degree in agronomy in 1939 1-11 from Texas A&M College; and 1-12 WHEREAS, As a student, he helped to plant the oak trees 1-13 that line Flag Row at Texas A&M University's main entrance; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Talented and resourceful, Mr. Porterfield served 1-15 as a Brazos County Commissioner from 1947 through 1972 and was 1-16 among the city's first general contractors and land developers; and 1-17 WHEREAS, He was dedicated to his work as a rancher and farmer 1-18 and spent much of his life in the Brazos Bottom, tending his trees, 1-19 crops, and cattle; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Respected for his many accomplishments, 1-21 Mr. Porterfield was an exemplary gentleman who was beloved by all 1-22 who knew him; and 1-23 WHEREAS, A well-known community leader, he was a member of 2-1 Adam Royder Lodge 778, Brazos Valley Shrine Club, the Arabia Temple 2-2 A.A.O.N.M.S. of Houston, and American Legion Post 159; and 2-3 WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and generosity, he gave 2-4 unselfishly of his time to others; and 2-5 WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Mr. Porterfield was a member of 2-6 the First Baptist Church of Bryan; and 2-7 WHEREAS, His wisdom, warm spirit, and valued counsel will not 2-8 be forgotten by those who knew him; and 2-9 WHEREAS, Clyde Porterfield was a devoted husband, father, 2-10 and grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured 2-11 forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it 2-12 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-13 73rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the 2-14 bereaved family of Clyde Jackson Porterfield, Sr.: his wife, 2-15 Irene Higgs Porterfield; his sons, Clyde J. Porterfield, Jr., and 2-16 Howard H.
