Freestone County, Texas Bios Texas Senate Resolution #650 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 650 In Memory of Marley Patrick Styner WHEREAS, The family and friends of Marley "Moe" Patrick Styner were deeply saddened by the passing of this gifted teacher and coach on April 1, 2005, at the age of 74; and WHEREAS, Born on December 14, 1930, in Liberty, Mr. Styner graduated from Palestine High School and The University of Texas at Austin; he served with distinction in the United States Coast Guard and the 49th Division of the Texas National Guard; and WHEREAS, Devoting his career to teaching and coaching, he had a true talent for making subjects come alive for his students at Idalou High School, Fairfield High School, and Palestine High School; and WHEREAS, During his tenure at Palestine High School, where he spent most of his career, Mr. Styner served a term as chairman of the social studies department, and he and his wife volunteered five times to escort groups of students to Washington, D.C., attending both of President Ronald Reagan's inaugurations; moreover, he was instrumental in rebuilding the tennis program at the school; and WHEREAS, This longtime Palestine resident was a valued member of the community who made significant contributions through his work as a member of the Upper Neches River Authority Board and the Anderson County Appraisal District Board and as treasurer of the American Cancer Society Memorials for Anderson County; a congregant at Saint Phillip's Episcopal Church, he served his church for three terms on the vestry and as vestry clerk as well as a Sunday school teacher and director of the Saint Phillip's Discovery School; and WHEREAS, Mr. Styner positively influenced countless individuals with his passion for teaching and devotion to his students, and he leaves behind an impressive legacy of good works; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Marley "Moe" Patrick Styner and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: his wife of 50 years, Martha Hunter Styner; his daughter, Carrie Jennings and her husband, Glenn; his grandchildren, Blake Burns, Marlee Burns, and Heather Jennings; his sister, Faye Styner Williamson; his brothers, Michael C. Styner and Pete Styner, Jr.; and to his many other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Marley "Moe" Patrick Styner.
