No. 1593 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Retiring from the Freestone County Sheriff's Department, Captain Hugh D. Whitaker is being honored for a lifetime of service to county citizens; and WHEREAS, A marine corporal who received the Purple Heart for his service in World War II and the former constable of Precinct #2 in Freestone County, Captain Whitaker has served as captain of reserve deputies since 1968 and chief deputy sheriff since 1995; among his many accomplishments are the establishment of the Freestone County Reserve Deputies and the organization of Freestone County Emergency Corps, which he has served as coordinator for the past 48 years; and WHEREAS, This Sam Houston State University graduate is past president of the Fairfield Lions and Rotary clubs, member of the Fairfield EMS board, the Freestone County Museum Board, and the Texas and national sheriff's associations, and a 29-year teacher and school administrator; and WHEREAS, The noteworthy law enforcement career of Captain Whitaker has been of lasting benefit to the lives of his fellow Freestone County residents, who enjoy a safer society and higher quality of life because of his many years of hard work and dedication; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Captain Hugh D. Whitaker on his retirement from the Freestone County Sheriff's Department and extend to him best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Captain Whitaker as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
