Freestone County, Texas Schools School Districts of Freestone County, Texas: After the county supervisor formed a school district and assigned a number to the school district, the number was typically never changed. Thus they would skip that number, if the school district was dissolved and merged into another school district. Once a county school district (CSD) was large enough, it was became an independent school district (ISD). The county school superintendent was only concerned with county/common school districts that he controlled. While, tax assessors were concerned with the tax amounts of both local and "interest and sinking". The following documents come from a mixture of tax assessors and county school superintendents, so remember that they have two different points of view. The following documents track school districts by the fees charged. Once a school year, the tax rate was determined by adding a road tax and school tax together. Independent school districts had an additional tax. In 1912, there were 44 Common School Districts. In 1931, there were 32 Common School Districts. Many were consolidated between 1912 and 1931, but overall we see a diminishing number of districts. In 1932 and 1933, Blount and Ward Prairie are listed but were assessed at a zero rate, so we marked these with a question mark. In 1934, W. F. Richardson was the county superintendent. Lanely closes. Streetman reopens. In 1935, there were 31 Common School Districts. Streetman is gone again. Providence closes. In 1938, Cedar and Liberty closed. In 1941, Owen Chapel closed. In 1942, Shanks closed.
