Freestone Co., TX Students Known to Have Attended Trinity/Westminster Junior College

  Tehuacana is a small community located just inside Limestone County but not 
far from the neighboring town of Wortham in Freestone County. A year later, the 
Trinity and Brazos Valley Railway passed through Tehuacana.  Tehuacana at its 
apex had over 600 people in the 1920s, but has steadily declined to under 300 
people. 
  The town of Tehuacana hosted Trinity University (co-ed) from September 23, 1869 
(officially chartered on August 13, 1870) until the university moved to Waxahachie 
in 1902.  In 1902, Seven Points College in Seven Points, Texas was sold to the 
Methodist Episcopal Church, South and the college was renamed Westminster Junior 
College and moved to Tehuacana, Texas.  Westminster College became part of 
Southwestern University in 1942. In 1950, Westminster College (a junior college) 
was closed and in 1953 the property was sold and the staff and students moved to 
Dallas.   
  In 2017, the annual Westminster College homecoming was held on Saturday and 
Sunday, April 29-30, in Tehuacana. Jim Meredith, president of the Westminster 
Ex-Students and Friends Association, has done a great job keeping up with former 
students.
