July 26, 1857 September 27, 1867 Additional Comments: This cemetery was inventoried by Allan Mitchell of Cuero, Texas on November 15, 2006. Texas Senator and Reverend 'James Charles Wilson' was the first person buried in this cemetery (1861). It is believed there was a church nearby at the time ('Wilson Church'). The neighboring county of Wilson was named for him in 1860. Wilson was reinterred at the Texas State Cemetery at Austin in 1936. The area of his burial site was somewhat disturbed in 1936 and left a number of rocks and granite spread about. The only visible grave remaining in the area where Wilson was buried (north of the Askey family plot) is 'Mary Fly'. Mary was interred in 1866, and is presently the oldest marked grave.
