Mrs. Merriman was the daughter of our fellow townsman Mr. A.J. Moore, born and reared in Gonzales County, and had many friends here who will regret to learn of her death. She had schoolmates and friends in the city who remember her as a bright and lovely young lady. On Feb. 1, 1883, she married to Mr. J.C. Merriman, of Hondo City, which place was her home up to the time of her death. She was not very strong for a year past, but it was within the last three months that the symptons of consumption became apparent. She leaves a disconsolate husband, and two chiidren to grow up without the care and influence of a mother, besides her parents and two brothers. We tender our heartfelt sympathy to the mourning relatives. Additional Comments: Martha "Mattie" Willis Moore was the oldest child of Andrew J. Moore and his first wife, Virginia Tinsley Moore. She was the granddaughter of Dr. John Tinsley of Gonzales. The two daughters of Mattie and John Merriman were Elizabeth (1884-1953) and Virginia (1885-1979).
