H. Heiskell PAMPA - Funeral services for Harmon Howard (Shorty) Heiskell, 86, who died at 8:45 p.m. last Thursday in Highland General Hospital, were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday in Duenkel Memorial Chapel. Rev. M. B. Smith, pastor of Alanreed Baptist Church, officiated. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery. Masonic services were conducted at the graveside by Lodge No. 966 of Pampa. Paulbearers were Haskell Maguire, L. L. Garren, Howard Threatt, Clifford Lewis, Floyd Watson and Glen McConnell. A resident of Pampa for 55 years, Mr. Heiskell was born Oct. 4, 1886 in Kyle, Tex., and came to Pampa in 1908. In 1913 he established his own water well drilling business in Pampa. He was married to Jennie Katherine Lard on April 9, 1911. She preceded him in death Nov. 3, 1960. Mr. Heiskell was a charter member of Masonic Lodge 966 of Pampa. Survivors include two daughters, DeAun Heiskell, Wichita Falls, and Avis Sanchez, Pampa; three sons, Orville and Claude, Pampa, and Grover of Houston; a sister, Bessie Rorrex, Oak Creek., Colo.; eight grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: H. H. "Shorty" Heiskell migrated to the Panhandle of Texas in the 1890s, after the death of his father, William Hurst Heiskell, in 1888, with his mother, Fannie Howard Rice Heiskell, and his siblings, Bessie and Edgar. They settled near the community of Washburn in Armstrong County. As a teen and young man Shorty was employed by the Thomas Brothers and through them learned the water well drilling business. His sons all worked in the family business in Pampa either drilling wells or in the machine shop.
