Deeds found in the county courthouses, particularly where one person conveys land, tenements, or heredi- taments to another often contain much genealogical information. ************************************************ Quit Claim Deed dated Nov. 16, 1857, Filed July 6, 1880, Recorded Vol. "A", p. 68 Sally H. Shortridge (and Mary G. Talbot) to William Thomas State of Texas County of Matagora "That we, Salley H. Shortridge (wife of John H. Shortridge) and Mary G. Talbot, daughters of Matthew Talbot and Harriet S. Talbot, his wife, the last having departed this life in February 1851, in the county and state aforesaid. For and in consideration of the sum of one dollar to us in hand paid by William Thomas of the County of Upshur and State aforesaid, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged and for further consideration and reasons that the said William Thomas has paid to our father aforesaid in the year 1856."... Matthew Talbot, our father, conveyed by deed to the said William Thomas one undivided half of a league of land lying in the county of Upshur and State aforesaid. The same being conveyed by the government of Coahuila and Texas to Avery R. Johnson distant about thirty five hundred varas north of and from Sabine River adjoining lands donated by said government to John Cotton.... We hereby relinquish and quit- claim all the right demand or interest that we ever had or in expectancy in future to the said William Thomas in and to the said land or any part thereof which in right of our deceased mother we might lawfully claim." ...16th day November 1857.
