L. Pattrick, a Texas and Pacific fireman, shot and killed John W. Clark, another fireman. The coroner's inquest shows that Clark had been throwing household furniture about the premises and into the street and became enraged at Pattrick. Kneeling on the front porch, he held up his hands and swore he would kill Pattrick on sight. Pattrick then got a shotgun and fired two loads of shot at short range, tearing away his left hand and a great hole in his left side, riddling his heart. Pattrick surrendered. From Wills Point Chronicle, Thursday, Oct. 10, 1895 (Ben Wheeler News): Dr. Gray, whilst down here with us, received a summons to the bedside of his sick daughter at Longview, Mrs. Downs. Hope he found her better and that she may speedily recover.
