COLSON respectfully represents that he is a resident citizen of Grimes County, in the State of Texas, and that he makes this application for the purpose of obtaining a pension under the act passed by the Twenty-sixth Legislature of the State of Texas, and approved May 12, A. D. 1899, the same being an act entitled "An act to carry into effect the amendment to the Constitution of the State of Texas, providing that aid may be granted to disabled and dependent Confederate soldiers, sailors, and their widows under certain conditions, and to make an appropriation therefor," and I do solemnly swear that the answers I have given to the following questions are true. NOTE - Applicant must make answer to all of the following questions, and such answers must be written out plainly in ink. Q. What is your name? Answer: William L. COLSON Q. What is your age? Answer: Sixty-two years Q. In what County do you reside? Answer: Grimes County Q. How long have you resided in said County and what is your post office address? Answer: Since 1870 - My P O Address is Roans Prairie, Grimes County, Texas Q. Have you applied for a pension under the Confederate Pension Law heretofore, and been rejected? If so state when and where. Answer: I have not Q. What is your occupation if able to engage in one? Answer: Farmer Q. If your physical condition is such that you are unable by your own labor to earn a support, state what caused such disability. Answer: I was wounded in the Army Q. State in what company and regiment you enlisted in the Confederate army, and the time of your service? Answer: Company E, Third Alabama Calvary from Aug 1863 to Dec 1863 Q. If you served in the Confederate navy state when and where, and the time of your service. Answer: August 1863. Mobile Alabama, was wounded 12th day of Dec 1863 at Russellville, Tenn Q. State whether or not you have received any pension or veteran donation land certificate under any previous law, and if you answer in the affirmative state what pension or veteran donation land certificate you ahve received. Answer: I have not Q. What real and personal property do you now own, and what is the present value of such property? Give list of such property and value. Answer: One wagon value $10.00 Q. What property, and what was the value thereof have you sold or conveyed within two years prior to the date of this application? Answer: I have sold 1 Horse and 1 Wagon value $45.00 for both Q. Teague, County Judge of Grimes County, State of Texas, on this day personally appeared W. D. Littler, who is a reputable practicing physician of this County, who being by me duly sworn on oath, states that he has carefully and thoroughly examined W. L. COLSON, applicant for a pension, and finds him laboring under the following disabilities which render him unable to labor at any work or calling sufficient to earn a support for himself: Gunshot wound in right hip. Chronice Bronchitis. Old Chronic Sores on Tibia of both legs which disables him from work as being on his feet. General disability. (Signature of Physician) W. D. Teague, County Judge of Grimes County, State of Texas, do hereby certify that on the 18th day of August A.D. 1899, before me came on to be heard the application of W. L. COLSON for a pension under the Confederate Pension Law of this State, approved May 12, A.D. 1899; that the answers of said applicant to the questions propounded were made under oath as the same appear in writing in the foregoing application; that the affidavits of the witnesses who are credible citizens were made before me as the same hereinbefore appear, and that the foregoing affidavit of Doctor W. D. Littler who is a reputable practicing physician of this County, was made before me. I also certify that the said applicant W. L. COLSON, is not an inmate of the Texas Confederate Home, nor otherwise disqualified under the provision of Section 12, of the Confederate Pension Law. I further certify that after considering all the proceedings had before me relative to the said application for a pension by the said A. F. Herring, I find the said applicant is lawfully entitled to the pension provided by the Confederate Pension Law of this State, and I hereby approve said application. Teague, County Judge of this Grimes County, to the Commissioners Court of this Grimes County, at a regular term thereof on the 19th day of August A. COLSON for Confederate pension under act of May 12, 1899, of the state of Texas, applied for pension on the 21st day of July, AD, 1899, and made affidavit to the following facts: That his name is W. L. COLSON; age 62 years; resides in Grimes county, in the state of Texas, and has resided in said county for 29 years; post office address Roans Prairie; that he never heretofore applied for a pension and been rejected; that his occupation is Farmer; that his physical condition is very poor and is unable to earn a support by his own labor; cause of his disability is being wounded in the Confederate army; that he enlisted in the Confederate army in company E, Third regiment Ala. Cavalry, on or about the 12th day of December 1863 and served for a term of ________, that he has no income. That he is in indigent circumstances, in actual want and destitute of property and means of subsistance; that he never deserted the confederacy, that he has been a bona fide resident citizen of the state of Texas continuously since January 1, 1880. Ford Q-2. What is your age? Answer: Fifty seven Q-3. In what county and state do you reside and where did you reside in April, 1861? Answer: Johnson County, Texas, and in April 1861 resided in Mobile, Alabama Q-4. What is your post office address? Answer: Cleburne, Johnson County, Texas Q-5. Do you personally know, or did your ever know. W. L. COLSON, applicant for pension. If you say you know him, state when and where you first met him and where does he now reside? Answer: I know him. First met him in camp of cavalry in state of Miss in 1863. He now lives in Grimes County, Texas. Q-6. Do you personally know that the said W. L. COLSON, applicant for pension, enlisted in the services of the confederacy and performed the duties of a soldier or sailor? Answer: I do. Q-7. Do you personally know in what company and regiment said W. L. COLSON enlisted in the Confederate army, and the time of his service? Answer: I do. Co. E, 3rd Regiment of Alabama Cavalry. Answer: I reside in Brazos County Texas, in April 1861 in residence in Mobile Ala. Q-4. What is your post office address? Answer: Brazos, Texas Q-5. Do you personally know, or did your ever know. _________, applicant for pension. If you say you know him, state when and where you first met him and where does he now reside? Answer: I know applicant W. L. COLSON personally. I first met him in Aug 1863 in Co. E, 3 Ala Caly. He now resides in Roans Prairie, Grimes Co Texas. Q-6. Do you personally know that the said __________, applicant for pension, enlisted in the services of the confederacy and performed the duties of a soldier or sailor? Answer: Yes he enlisted in my Co, as above mentioned. Q-7. Do you personally know in what company and regiment said W. L. COLSON enlisted in the Confederate army, and the time of his service? Answer: Yes Co. E 3 Ala Cavly. I was __________ he served from Aug 1863 and served until about Dec 12th 1863. He was wounded, disabling him. Q-8.
